A 20V Mk2 VW Built in 2002?

There are cars that survive. And then there are cars that are preserved.

This 2002 Mk2 Jetta GTX falls squarely into the latter. Purchased new and kept by a single owner who treated maintenance like ritual, it has lived a quiet, careful life. Garaged. Serviced. Protected. The kind of example that still carries the faint scent of early-2000s Volkswagen plastics when you open the door. An unrepeatable sort of clean.
We were happy to hear many HCC parts were used throughout its life.

For most of the world, the Mk2 story ended in the early 1990s. In China, it kept evolving until 2013. While other markets moved on, this chassis matured - refined year after year in subtle but meaningful ways. We’ve spent years immersed in that evolution: building them, restoring them, sourcing parts for them, and sending those parts to enthusiasts around the globe.

The 20V GTX was the most special Mk2 sold in China, being fitted with the Mk4 EA113 5 valve per cylinder engine in naturally aspirated form. Revvy, smooth and with plenty of tuning potential, the 20V GTX quickly found its way into rally stages and grassroots race grids across China, earning credibility with tuners and club racers who understood what the chassis could become.

This particular car wears the 1998 facelift: B4-style front-end treatment up front and a smoother, more resolved rear fascia out back. The updated taillights and smooth heckblende plate tub subtly modernize the Mk2 silhouette without disturbing its proportions.

Over its extended production run, the Chinese Mk2 received countless incremental improvements. A stiffer chassis. More refined engines. Reinforced components. Refined trim. Better sealing. The one-piece side window seals alone are a quality-of-life upgrade that makes these later cars feel tighter and more finished than their early counterparts.

Chinese Mk2s had many engineering upgrades throughout its lifetime. The upgraded one-piece side window seals are probably the best quality-of-life improvement from our experience with the Mk2.

We carry all new OEM Mk2 seals, including the roof rain gutter rubber seal, and the upgraded window and door seals.
