A Red Mk2 Jetta Built in 2002 - HCC Paddock
Han ChungThere’s something special about a final-year car.

This 2002 Mk2 Jetta represents the end of an era. 2002 was the last year of the square-body, big-bumper Mk2 to roll off the line in Changchun, China before the B4 style facelift Mk2 fully took over.
Today, these final-run big-bumper cars are increasingly sought after in China.

This particular car has lived the right kind of life.
Over the years, it’s received many, many HCC parts: factory-correct components, OEM refresh items, and subtle upgrades that keep the driving experience tight and honest. It’s a car that reflects the philosophy we stand behind: maintain properly, upgrade tastefully, and respect the platform.

One of the standout details on this car is the 4 slat Mk3-style Aero grille, a recent addition to the Han Chung Classics store. Designed as an affordable high quality upgrade for Mk2s running rectangular “Aero” headlights, it offers a subtle evolution of the factory look without stepping outside OEM language.

Open the door and you’re greeted by green cloth interior with wood accents, a nice contrast to the red paintwork and unmistakably 1980s VW.

Under the hood sits the dependable 8-valve four-cylinder 1.6, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. The 8V has always been the heartbeat of the Mk2: simple, durable, and surprisingly eager when paired with the chassis’ lightweight feel.

2002 marked the final production year for the square-body big-bumper Mk2 in China. However, Mk2 production didn't end in China until 2012. Read more about the extensive history of the Mk2 in the Chinese market on our previous blog entry here.
